Burjuman

BurJuman is located at the heart of the retail and heritage districts – Bur Dubai. Known in the early days as ‘the other side of town’, Bur Dubai made its mark as the home of the affluent and elite of the community. It is indeed the place where modern Dubai was born. The arrival of BurJuman set the trend for landmark property development in the area, pioneering the experiential mall culture in Dubai.

Hailed as the first luxury mall in Dubai, Burjuman opened its doors to the public through the North Wing section of the mall on 5 November 1991, making it one of the oldest malls in Dubai. Comprising only of the North Wing section totaling 500,000 sq ft., this popular destination labeled ‘the first luxury mall in Dubai’ was developed by the Al Ghurair Group.

 

Ever since the mall first opened, BurJuman has transformed through renovations and extensions in different phases to meet the changing needs and aspirations of customers as well as the tenants. The first expansion exercise in 2001 included office space, 163 luxury condominiums and furnished apartments, leasable retail spaces, leisure arcades, speciality restaurants, entertainment halls, nine cinema halls, a spacious food court, a health club and 3,200 parking spaces. Today, as a result of this expansion, we have what is popularly known as BurJuman Business Tower, BurJuman Arjaan Hotel and the BurJuman Residence. The expansion increased BurJuman’s retail floor space to 74,322 sqm while the BurJuman Business Tower stands tall today with a built-up area of 37,000 sqm.

 

BurJuman ventured on its largest redevelopment in 2011 with the addition of a fourth floor cinema complex – the 14 screen Vox Cinemas multiplex; an anchor hypermarket – the 5,779 sqm Carrefour that was initiated in 2014; adding an extended food court to the third floor family entertainment area and extending the retail space to 92,903 sqm.

 

Today, BurJuman has embarked on another phase of re-invention with the launch of the fashion walkway at the south wing, bringing hand-picked, internationally renowned brands – some of them available to the region’s customers for the first time.
